Education is the Key
Education is very important to our philosophy
of empowerment.
It is through her own education that Elizabeth was able to found the ICEO — and
it is through education that she seeks to uplift the next generation of needy
children.
We work with private and community schools
across Rubanda District that cater for both Batwa and non-Batwa children.
We assist schools with uniforms, lunches for Batwa children, funding for
scholastic materials, and in some cases, financial support to build classrooms
and other school facilities.
Below are two schools that we work closely
with to help build a brighter future for both Batwa and non-Batwa children of
Rubanda District.
🏫 Nchundura Primary School

Bakiga pupils whose parents
can afford to pay,
As many of the pupils cannot afford school fees, community organizations like ICEO
have stepped in to help finance the school.
We have assisted with buying scholastic
materials and providing food for children’s lunches. However, there is still
more work to be done.
In conversation with the school management,
they mentioned the need for renovating the entire school and continued support
for pupils graduating from Primary 7.
Most of these children cannot afford to continue to secondary or trade school
and end their education after Primary 7.
Sitting in the head teacher’s room, he said,
“The pupils enjoy school. They want to
continue. Even when they perform well, they just lack the funds to go on.”
The ICEO and other organizations are working
hard to make their dreams possible.
